WAAM technology - Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing, which I reported on last week with NASA's Moon project, is now being tested for use in underwater habitats.

DEEP, an UK company whose mission is titled ¨Make Humans Aquatic¨, is developing tools and models that will enable humankind to create a habitat for life underwater. In the future, they aim to enable people to live, work and explore under the ocean.

Last month, the company announced via their social media accounts a project focused on developing innovative construction techniques. In this project, they produced a 1-meter diameter carbon steel cylinder in eight days, using the WAAM technique.

This will be used for non-destructive testing to help develop and validate new procedures that will be used to create Sentinel, which will be used as an modular subsea human habitat, they said.
