Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has introduced an AI-driven welding robot designed to improve efficiency and accuracy in industrial welding. The system, which integrates AI with a 3D vision sensor, can autonomously detect weld seam contours and adjust in real time. According to ITRI, this innovation reduces welding time from six hours to just 30 minutes while achieving 99% accuracy.

Traditional welding robots typically require manual programming and are limited to single-pass welding on materials up to 2 cm thick. By training its AI model with expert welder experience, ITRI aims to address these limitations and expand automation in industries such as semiconductors and offshore wind power. The welding robot is currently undergoing testing in domestic steel factories, with potential applications in automotive, aerospace, and transportation sectors.

As automation continues to evolve, AI-driven welding solutions like ITRI’s system could play a significant role in increasing production efficiency and meeting industry demands.
